Error 47: Invalid URL. ()

For the last few weeks when trying to download an HD trailer (480p, 720p, 1080p) for ANY movie, I keep getting the message Error 47: Invalid URL. (). I have tried in IE 9.0, Firefox 5.0 and Chrome (12.0.742.112) and ALL give me the same result.

I am running the lastest version of QuickTime Player - 7.6.9 (1680.9) [QuickTime Version 7.6.9 (1680.9)] on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

I have also tried on Windows Vista Business 32-bit SP2 running QuickTime Player - 7.6.5 (518.4) [QuickTime Version 7.6.5 (1327.80)] with IE 9.0, Firefox 3.5.4 and still giving me the same results.

I have found suggestions from posts that are anywhere from 2007-2009 but they do NOT work.

This has obviously been an issue for quite some time and with NO resolution.

I do hope an Apple developer or someone reads this so that we can find out what is being done.

If nothing gets done, then I guess I have no choice but to go to other sites like Yahoo or HD-Trailers, to view trailers that actually work.

I have the identical problem while viewing the HD trailers on the trailers.apple.com site. I also have the latest version of Quicktime (7.6.9) and the latest version of Chrome. Previously, it was working without incident for many months.

Using IE9 caused the browser plugin to launch, rather then QT, so it can't be viewed full-screen. Right clicking the link in Chrome avoids the error but also uses the browser plug-in so no fullscreen either.

Hi guys and girls. This one really annoyed me for a good half hour and I found that none of the other forum entries solved this issue for me...I have just fixed it for my Windows 7 x64 PC and this is what I did:

Installed the latest version of iTunes with Quicktime to ensure all files are present and up to date.

Opened Quicktime and went to Edit->Preferences->Quicktime Preferences OR Control Panel->Quicktime (32-bit) then click Browser. I unticked 'Play movies automatically' but not sure if that helped. Click MIME Settings. Scroll down to .mov - mine was set to Windows Media Player (evil) as may be yours. Tick the box to allow Quicktime to play .mov files then press Save.

Hopefully this fixes the issue for you 🙂

I second the question: Does anyone with a Mac have the same issue?

All the users reporting problems so far appear to be running Windows.

Perhaps a software incompatibility was exposed by an automagic update? This would explain why it could slip by Apple QA, as they would likely have no way to test in advance.

I've checked file associations though, and reinstalled QT, and all appears to be correct but the issue remains.

I find your lack of curiousity surprising.

I have not seen this error before and it also appears to be new to a number of other users who report that it appearred spontaneously. Thus it seems apparent that the current situation may be due to a different cause than previous occurences.

Even if it is not a different cause, then simply due to the fact that I have never seen if before after 5 years of niave QT usage strongly suggests that there is then a simple workaround.

So I ask again: Has anyone recently begun to see this error on a Mac?

First off, don't ever call me an idiot okay! I was simply asking a question since I found it strage that all three of my windows computers started having the exact same problem at the exact same time. I wasn't implying that its a windows pc only problem. So, if you have any knowledge to share with the rest of us then of course we will gladly welcome it with much appreciation. But keep your snide remarks to yourself, please.

I have the "Error 47: Invalid URL" problem, too. Startet a few weeks ago, never had this problem in the past.

My current system:

PC

Intel Core i5 750 (4x 2.67 GHz)

8 GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 275

Windows 7 x64 Home Premium SP1 (german) - all updates installed

Quicktime 7.6.9 (german)

I testet with Firefox 5.0 and Internet Explorer 9.0.1, a few seconds after selecting HD Trailer on trailers.apple.com (e.g. 720p), I got the error 47 messagebox and "QuickTimePlayer.exe*32" was listet in the Taskmanager under processes, but no GUI loaded. I had to kill the process.

I also tried disabling my Norton Internet Security, but has no effect.

When I "save to ..." and try to open the (very small) *.mov file in Quicktime I get an error, too.

Other *.mov files from my HDD working fine.

Yesterday I tried my old PC (Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP 32-bit SP3) and I could watch the HD Trailers with Firefox 5.0 and IE 8.0 with no problems!

While the "invalid URL" points to a problem on the apple website, maybe it only happends on Windows 7 / 64-bit systems.

Ann.

As I have pointed out, my curiousity, not lack of it, found that the problem goes back many years. Leading me to the same conclusion that many others on these boards have arrived at.

Its a quicktime problem.

Even if no mac users have had this problem, or at least willing to admit they have had this problem, its been around for so long, its got to be down to apple. After trawling through post after post regarding the matter, it seems they can't even be bothered to reply to anybody asking about the problem.

I have the same problem. I tried to fix it now for an hour. What I did was removed iTunes and Quicktime (normal way and using Revo Uninstaller).

Then I cleaned up registry manually from all quicktime and itunes references, deleted all files after uninstall by hand. I then "clean installed it" using 64 bit iTunes 10.3.1 client and same **** all over again.

It's a **** shame that they can't be bothered to fix the problem. It might have something to do (according to what I read) languages and perhaps some mixmatch of itunes and quicktime previous install. From what it seemed some people installed Quicktime US version and when you have to start using iTunes (I got my iPhone) and it installed in Finnish everything got screwed...

Some tip was using orca to delete all but EN language upon install, but it can't be true that the program is just so ****. IMBD trailers started to become a decent site (not as good as apples) but i'll guess I have to start using it and leave this rotting iTunes for just iPhone syncing and operating on my computer...

Have to hope the update to iTunes 8 or some other major release and fix this **** problem by accident 🙂 Thumbs up Apple!

I am reposting my reply from another thread regarding this....

You are not alone in this, none of the pc's on my network can get them to play as intended ie popout resizable windows.i have a mix of windows 7x64 home premium machines, windows vista home premium and xp home pc's, neither one of them work!

I have tried older versions of quick time and the latest, with a firewall and without, with an antivirus and without.

The fault is either with virgin media my isp or with apple themselves?

I had gotten to the point where I even considered restoring my pc, as i had tried with and without outpost firewall different browsers (internet explorer, opera and chrome) and uninstalling my antivirus but out of interest i tried it on another pc first .

On an aside internet explorer 9 ( on 64 bit) only displays the header it does not show any other info on the page, it even with activX filtering turned off?

Jul 10, 2011 11:06 AM in response to Bluetac

I can't play any podcasts now (just empty screen). I managed to get trailers working with IE9 (but not via quicktime directly). It works with embedded player inside IE9, but better than nothing. I tried to hit my head to a wall for 1,5h hours without a success.

I had everthing working fine with Quicktime Pro up until some 2 months ago 😟
