How much video record time on iphone 3GS?

Trying to get ready for a rare vacation. I would like to know how much video I can record to my iPhone 3GS. I will be taking a Mac along for downloads, but need to know how much time I have for recording before it's full. Is checking capacity and available under general settings the only way to gauge how much time I have left? If there isn't much capacity, I may have to buy a camcorder -- which will be an expenditure for a one-use event.

How much you can record depends on your phone's capacity. If you have a 8GB iPhone 3GS then it won't record much. If you have a 32GB, then it's going to record more. Also any music, videos, apps on the phone takes additional space. If you plan to record a lot, then I would get a camcorder.

My experience with this is that the iPhone 4 cuts out at just under 50 min of video recording time, about 3.7 GB. I've tried to find a setting to adjust this -- I've the 32GB, with little else on there -- but there doesn't seem be one. Therefore more than 20 GB go unused. Frustrating to say the least.
