Stuck on date and time setup at start up-Apple TV2

I haven't used my apple tv in some time. When I plugged it in, it started up and instantly and began attempting to set the date and time. It continued working to do so until the screensaver came up. The screensaver continues on and on and my remote is unable to stop it despite the light flickering on the front of the apple tv unit. Does anyone know how to bypass the date and time setup and move to the home screen? I've tried restarting with the same result each time.

Thanks.

I have the same issue at the moment. I tried adam116's suggestion, went and bought a micro USB cable, but I'm not sure how to restore it to factory settings using my Mac. It doesn't seem to recognise that I've plugged it in.

If I try resetting with my Apple Remote, it just stays on the same screen, whether it's setting the date and time or the screen saver. It does not respond to the Apple Remote. I've unplugged it and left it, then plugged it back in, then it just starts trying to set the date and time again. I've tried using differeing HDMI ports and it's all the same. As far as I can tell, it's not the wireless reception that's the problem.

Any suggestions please?

EDIT: Totally fixed it. I must have unpaired my remote or something, which is why it wasn't responding. Either way, it's working fine now.

Hi all,

I have just purchased appletv and have the same issue "Stuck on date anf time at startup" also it did not allow me to log on to my itunes account (so no adding other computer no itunes store content etc.). Tried the following without success. Please help. Youtube does not show any list however flicker shows me photos which indicates internet is working. Airshow with all other mac devices works fine. Even can play my itunes content using the IPAD remote app.

1) Opened firewall from the wireless router

2) reset appletv by connecting to my Mac and also performed the software update using mac

3) resetting appletv using the appletv remote

4) Logging in and out i-tunes to other apple devices many times

I am stuck, need help

I had the same problem today with a brand new AppleTV - first I changed the time server on my Airport Extreme router, thinking that the Apple time server wasn't accessible. This didn't solve the problem. Then I changed the DNS settings on the router to the default server for my network (I had changed these some time ago....) and that did the trick - rebooted the AppleTV and it synched with the network time very quickly. After that I could sign in to every service. So you can check your DNS settings, and maybe that will work.

I know this is old but I just had this very problem, and wanted to share how I solved it. I had bought a new ATV3 and took the old ATV2 and installed it with a small tv in another room. I plugged everything in and started it up -- and couldn't get past Setting Time and Date. The remote would not stop it from trying to do this, either! I.e., pressing "menu" had no effect. Then I realized that I was trying to use the NEW remote control on the OLD ATV2 -- and as soon as I got the OLD remote control from the other room and used it, I was able to stop the processing and finish the installation successfully. I had assumed the remotes were the same because I had successfully used the OLD remote to set up the NEW ATV3. Weird. But now I know, and so do you.

(Another weird thing: now that the old ATV2 is in the same room as my iMac, I've noticed that when I use the remote to control the ATV2, the iMac on the other side of the room responds: it wakes up, starts playing sound recordings, etc. Oh well.)
