Key test message! frozen

Hi! My nano is stuck on something called "key test". I don't know how it got there.. but I ran the test that came up on the screen ( small typing ) now it is frozen can't continue, can' turn it off .. My itunes in my pc is fine( Idid plug Nano into my lap top at work yesterday but didn't run anything.. tell me it is not dead! thanks! Lani

How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.

It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.

it appears to be in a factory test mode. doing these things did not unlock it. thanks anyway.. any other ideas?

please has anyone found the solution? I have the same problem. My ipod is stuck on "key test". Also, I thought the final solution might be to reset, but my computer doesn't recognize my ipod anymore, and so when I tried to reset, it just keeps telling me to connect the ipod.

I fixed it! I was not holding down "menu" and "select" buttons long enough. ...and by the way, why do they make it so hard to figure out that the center button is "select"?

Anyway, I toggled the hold button back and forth about 6 times, then put the nano down on a flat surface, pushed down "menu" with one little finger tip, pushed down the center button with the other, being careful not to intrude into any other area (geesh) and then started to count slowly. When I got to 10, the apple appeared, then the menu, and my computer recognized that something was connected to the usb port and itunes opened.

So I guess the answer is to toggle hold more, and then to hold down the buttons for a long time. I hope this helps someone else.
