I am trying to access my work using the Citrix receiver and it works well on my Mac. However on my iPhone 4, I get an error message that Safari can;t download the file. I beleive the file is a *.ica file to launch the Citrixonline plugin or the Citrix receiver app. Any suggestions? BTW it works well on a co-workers Android phone.... imagine the grief I am getting! :-)

On an iPhone, you can't download and install anything from the internet, except for apps from the App Store. Try the Citrix app as Julian recommended.
Ok I guess I should have made it more clear. I am using the suggested app. I have to point to the CAG server in Safari, like I do on my Mac and like my Android brethren. After I log in, I click the link to launch the actual Citrix receiver (or the citrix online plugin) to get to the Windows desktop, and Safari says can't download the file. I was unaware on my Mac that a file was being downloaded, which I suspect is the *.ica file, as it happens very quickly and a small window opens that is the Citrix receiver or the online plugin and VIOLA the Win desktop appears.
If I open the Citrix receiver app on the iPhone, there are settings that need to be entered and at this time my higher up IT support won't provide that info, as the iPhone is not approved officially and they won't offer me any info.
I just figured it'd work like it did on my co-workers Android as the process is the same for him and believe it or not for him "it just worked". :-)
Systems set up that way will not work on the iPhone. It's a security thing. Talk to your administrator and see if they can give you information to sign into the terminal server itself rather than launching the integrated environment.
It's not a technology issue as much as it is a security issue. There's a reason there is no malware out there that affects non-jailbroken iPhones. This is a part of it.
Ok I will do that. My employer, the Dept. of Veteran Affairs is so slow in adopting new technology and the demand from the users is so great for use of the iPhone & iPad to access their work is very great. I am in IT and believe when I say when they lock it down, they lock it down like Ft Knox.
it was already suggested that i jailbreak the phone and I will NOT do that.
A bit off topic, but thank for the service you provide. I'm a Marine (NOLOAD). Cold War, Grenada, Panama. I've never had need of your services, but many of my brothers have. The VA gets a bad rap some times. Just want you to know you're appreciated.
That said, there are a number of RDP clients out there that you may be able to use to access your desktop machine remotely as a workaround.
Hello David. I too work for the VA IT department and have been searching for a fix to use the Citrix for iPhone app. Unfortunately, Apple has not made the necessary fixes to allow the iPhone recognize the .ica file format as a Citrix application.
This was the same reason the iPad did not work initially however, Apple fixed the bug with the iOS 4.3 update. Citrix for iPad works at both VISN and National level with a very simple configuration.
Unfortunately, this is a case in which Apple must make mods in order for Citrix to work on the iPhone. Im still working on a workaround. If you need a how-to guide for the iPad, I can email you a copy. Joseph
