~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist dissapears randomly

Hi,

for last ±2 months I have problem with $SUBJ. I use no apps like Onyx, so does anybody have some idea why this is happening? It's really annoying when all my settings are gone.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I tried to repair permissions on my own, chown -R user:staff /Users/user and it looks o.k. Strange is, when I was looking on permissions in path to GlobalPreference, that they were o.k. Changes also were entered into the file, so I thought it was o.k.

So thanks to you all for your ideas, I will follow if the problem re-appears and I will let you know.

Hmm, I'm not sure if settings like mobile me account, keyboard shortcuts and translucent menu bar are stored in pram. I have this issue on ±6 months old MBA and I see there no issue where volume/brightnes level, startup disk, ... are dissapearing. So I do not thought this could be issue with pram.

Hi, after a lot of mucking around and starting a conversation with the creator of MagicPrefs (see here) and following his suggestion to use fs_usage to monitor, my next suspicion is the Mail app.

These are the unlink calls that generally precede the GlobalPreferences.plist file disappearing from my Library/Preferences.

09:20:26.435 unlink [ 2] /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist 0.000004 Mail

09:20:41.436 unlink [ 2] /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist 0.000004 Mail

09:20:56.436 unlink [ 2] /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist 0.000003 Mail

The two bundles I have installed are GPGMail and MailFollowUp. Anyone else running Mail with these bundles? It's also possible that it's a weird bug in Mail that's deleting GlobalPreferences, but that's much more unlikely because then almost everyone using it would be experiencing this issue.

I tried repairing permissions using Disk Utility before and that didn't fix anything. Also, I already had the right permissions on .GlobalPermissions.plist and was the owner so chowning wouldn't have done anything.

I've uninstalled GPGMail since I use it rarely and will continue watching this for the next few days to see if anything has changed. Thanks for confirming the GPGMail thing.
