Q: ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist dissapears randomly

Hi,

for last ±2 months I have problem with $SUBJ. I use no apps like Onyx, so does anybody have some idea why this is happening? It's really annoying when all my settings are gone.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I tried repairing permissions using Disk Utility before and that didn't fix anything.  Also, I already had the right permissions on .GlobalPermissions.plist and was the owner so chowning wouldn't have done anything.

I've uninstalled GPGMail since I use it rarely and will continue watching this for the next few days to see if anything has changed.  Thanks for confirming the GPGMail thing.

Well I uninstalled both bundles and it's still happening.  I've submitted a bug report about Mail to bugreport.apple.com.  Here it is if anyone wants to track it as well:

Just an update, I uninstalled GPGMail and MailFollowUp by deleting the bundle files and after rebooting, I haven't had the problem reappear (it's been about 5 days).  Will continue monitoring and if things go smoothly I think we might have found the culprit.

Sigh.  Just happened after I put the Macbook to sleep:

    19:34:45.643  unlink                                 /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist                               0.000119   loginwindow

    19:34:45.651  unlink                 [  2]           /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist                               0.000003   UserEventAgent

    19:34:45.659  unlink                 [  2]           /Users/jetset/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist                               0.000003   VMware Fusion He

So it wasn't Mail (or only just Mail) after all.

    :-(

Did you try chown on your $HOME? I'm now on Lion also and have no more problem with this.

Oh so this is possibly fixed in Lion?  Thanks for the update.
