Can I charge my iPhone 3Gs from the wall using a plug adaptor in Europe?

Although the AC power adaptor that comes with the phone handles up to 240 volts AC, the prongs won't fit European outlets. You'll need something like this:
Most of Europe uses a SHUKO 2 pin type plug with the ground connection in the socket. The UK uses a bigger 3 pin plug with the ground or earth connection on the plug.
So it depends where in Europe you intend to travel. The $39.00 kit will be comprehensive but it's a lot to haul around if you want to travel light.
You can buy in good retail stores in the UK an iphone charging socket by a third party manufacturer into which your standard USB cord will fit.
A Gear 4 / PG494 costs £7.00 (about $10.00) and is available from John Lewis Department Stores or Dixons (a nation wide electrical goods chain specialising in computers and cameras) among others.
The same thing from the Apple Store costs £26.00.
However, if you intend to travel more widely in Europe a combination of the GEAR USB plug and a SHUKO adaptor, which is available from the same two stores and any airport or ferry terminal, will do everything you need, cost you less than the $39.00 kit and be less to carry.

Maybe I wasn't clear: I have wall adaptors for Europe. Will I need a transformer to alter the voltage?
In a word no. I charge my iPhone in the USA, UK, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Turkey using the appropriate adapter and nothing more. (iPhone 3G and now iPhone 4). My wife has an iPhone 3GS which charges perfectly well in the USA and the UK. We both use the adapters I described before to keep things simple.
The same holds true for my Mac Book Pro and Mac Book Air so you should have no trouble.
The whole Apple range seems to be built to cope with 110 to 240 volts and 50 - 60hz range.
As I said in my first post, the iPhone adaptor already can handle 100- 240 volts, the max you'll get in Europe. You don't need any transformers.

🙂 It can work any where but make sure what the shape of the plug as of India there plugs are a round shape.
So you can go E-Bay and type in a 'IPhone 3GS Europe' But it hard to find so make sure you visit daily!
