Cursive fonts

Can anyone tell me if there are any "elegant" fonts that can be seen on Macs AND PCs both and what they might be? I want to use a fancy one but I want it to be seen on most pcs. I realize that fonts can only be seen if that person has that font, but is there one that most pcs would have as well as Macs? Also, what would happen if I put perhaps zapfino in 24 on my template and they don't have it; would it be their default in 24 and may be unreadable or what?

I don't have any favourites in particular, but here are some hints:

A PDF file usually embeds the fonts, so if you create a file in Pages and export it to pdf, it is likely that it will look the same on a PC. You can verify in Adobe Reader if the fonts are embedded (File > Document Properties > Fonts).

To go from PC to Mac, Word for PC also has the ability to embed fonts (something the Mac version doesn't do). I think (should check this), that Mac for Word is able to read the embedded fonts and display them.

OK, I don't know a direct answer and I don't know eBay's templates, but I go for a second attempt for a work-around.

I assume we now talk HTML? In HTML you often define several fonts at the same time, for example: "font-family:arial,helvetica;", where Windows browsers always can find Arial, and Mac users always find Helvetica.

My very wild guess is that eBay has a way of doing the same thing in some way - define "pretty cursive", and behind that are several fonts - one for the Mac and one for Windows and perhaps one for Unix systems. But I'm afraid I don't know where to look for it and how to do it with eBay.

I hope that either this helps you in some way, or that someone else has a more direct solution.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it.

But what I specifically want to do is templates for ebay. I want others - pc users - to see the pretty font as I see it. I know of others who use cursive fonts on their ebay templates, but they didn't appear that way to me until we got a pc laptop and I was stunned to see their beautiful pages viewing them from the pc.

So that said, can anyone help with that specifically? It doesn't do any good for just me to see it and none of the others who view my items. I appreciate all replies!

There is a set of Web Safe fonts - which includes Helvetica, Trebuchet, Vendana, and Courier. These are called Web Safe because every computer can be assured of having them. There are no cursive fonts on the list. When I want to use a font that isn't web safe, I create a JPG file with the text turned into a picture.

Yes, I thought of that. But to get auctions on ebay already requires a lot of prep work - i.e. phototaking, editing photos, making the template, etc. I was hoping there was an easy way in choosing more cursive fonts. 🙂

Thank you though,
