error 2 (windows error 5)

I am trying to install iTunes onto my laptop (Windows 7, 64-bit) and I am getting this error message after it has been installed:

Apple Application Support was not found.... Error 2 (Windows error 5).

I have tried to do an installation of AAS separately using WinRar and also using the Apple Software Update, but nothing is working. I've installed and uninstalled it soooo many times!

Please help!

When I do the msi installation of AAS using WinRar, I do not get an error message. I only get the error message after I install quicktime or itunes. Sometimes it says the "Windows error 5" part and sometimes it doesn't.

As well, I am doing the msi installation of AAS after I have fully uninstalled itunes and the other Apple programs so it is the first Apple program going back on. After installing AAS that way, I've tried different ways of installing the others, i.e., via msi and WinRar, using the Apple full itunes install.

I only have an ipod so I'm trying to fix this other than calling Apple since I'd have to pay for support.

Do you have any suggestions, b noir?

So it is installed and there, but iTunes isn't seeing it anyway.

By way of experiment, try launching iTunes by doing a "Run as administrator".

In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.

Open the "Program files (x86)" folder.

Open the "iTunes" folder.

Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".

Does iTunes launch without the 2 this time?
