Compatibility Epson Stylus Photo RX500 and Image Capture

Hi there,

Does anybody know if it is possible to scan using Image Capture with my Epson stylus photo rx 500. As far as I have already found out, the scan window in Imag e Capture is supposed to open automatically when the scanning device is switched on. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen.
I would like to try Image Capture, because I don't like Epson's native software: Epson Scan.

Thanks for your help,

Giorgio

I also have an Epson Stylus Photo RX500. I have found an easy fix to get the scanner to work. I have OS 10.3.9 so I am not sure if this will work with 10.4
First turn on the Epson. Then open Image Capture. I have version 2.1.0 Under Image capture open preferences. Select scanner. Check both "Use TWAIN..." and "Open scanner..." This should fix the problem. Epson Smart Panel still works for me although I never use it.

Hi Tony,

I just wanted to add to what I said before that I recommend an erase and install (of course after making a good backup of your system). Do not install Epson's printer driver separately. You don't need it because it's already in Tiger. Just hook up your rx500 after the installation and give a print command in for example text editor. Tiger recognizes the printer and then allows you to choose your specific model from its pre installed driver list.
Strangely enough you still need Epson Scan, but as I said earlier on you don't need to use the program. It seems to function as the driver for the scanner of your rx500.

Good luck and let me know if you have any problems,

Eaglepeak
