Do you have any other input devices besides the built-in trackpad? A mouse or magic trackpad maybe?
Same issue as well as jumping cursor.
Have you checked the Keyboard and Mouse system preference panel and seen if you could tag a check-box to 'ignore trackpad' or 'ignore mouse' when you have two devices (assuming wireless BT) in proximity? The input may be confusing.
Also you may have to perform system maintenance, such as safeboot, repair disk permissions, and the like; then restart normally.
There may be a related issue or fix in a reset of the SMC (system management controller). Since settings inside the system that could be corrupted could also be stored in NVRAM, a reset of that may affect this issue. Some users with battery issues in their BT devices, found if a battery was loose, performance became irratic.
You could've started a new topic thread, when no replies or answers were available in this old one from 2011.
Not sure if this helps, though...
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
