Mac and TV (Philips) as second monitor - handshake problems (turquoise colors)

Hi everybody,

I have a problem and hope that somebody mabye has a hint: I connected my iMac via Mini-Display-Port-to-HDMI-Adapter (on Thunderbolt port) to my Philips TV as a second monitor (to watch movies on it etc.). However, after a few minutes the TV always goes fully green for a second and after that, the colors are inverted to a green/turquoise mess - identical to the problem a lot of people (including me) with Philips and Sony TVs had with the new Apple TV until Apple finally fixed it with an update.

Does anybody know if I can also fix THIS "color inversion" problem with my TV? Am I screwed again only because of my Philips TV or does the reason lie somewhere else? Is trying another MDP-to-HDMI-adapter a chance or is this little thing not relevant for this problem? I also tried activating the "PC Modus" on my TV (which also was a hint with the old Apple TV handshake problem), but it doesn't work (and didn't with the Apple TV either).

Any hint is appreciated - although I am afraid this is a very special problem with my Philips TV hard to track down ... (Considering that it already took Apple months to fix it on the Apple TV.) Anyway, thanks a lot in advance!!!

EDIT: Now, after posting, I found some other threads addressing the same problem, too. (I searched before, but didn't stumble upon them ...) Sorry for this new thread, but there still seems no solution out there. We Philips- and Sony-TV-Owners probably need an update for the computer like Apple did for the Apple TV, but how high are the chances ...?

I have tried only one Mini-Display-Port-to-HDMI-Adapter yet (which got very good ratings) - don't know if recommended by Apple or not. I will order another one for a test soon, but only as this is the only desperate chance to try out something by myself - I am 99 percent sure (and I don't say this very often when it comes to unsolved computer problems) that the problem lies somewhere else and won't be fixed with another adapter. It's a **** tricky, hard to resolve problem with Philips and Sony TVs that we Apple TV 2 user from the first hour still know too well. I don't know why and how this handshake problems occurs, but if Apple doesn't fix it with an update, I am afraid we will still read about this problem years from now in these forums ... Just have a look at the handshake problem history with the Apple TV, the exact same problem and NO fix at all for months until Apple finally fixed it with a software update.

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro 13" 2011 model, and a Sony KDL-32EX402.

I have a MiniDisplay to HDMI cable, but the colors invert very randomly. I have OS X Lion but that hasn't helped on the problem.

I read that the problem involves various models of tv, macbook, apple tv. Then it is a problem of Apple.

We call on everybody the technical support and ask to open a case. I have already called

Csound1: The adapter is NOT the problem in this case, believe me. This problem goes much deeper and nobody has a solution for it yet.

rkaufmann87: It may be a different machine, but it is the exact same problem if Antonio experiences the same thing as me and the others. This is not a harware-specific problem for iMacs, I guess.

Csound1: Name me the adapter and I'll order it the next second I read your response and try it out. I'm betting 100 dollar it will not work. Just give me the exact name. Thanks.

I already answered and you stated that "The adapter is NOT the problem in this case, believe me."

I believe you and I'm done.

You answered nothing. If you really fixed the HDMI handshake problem like stated, just name the exact manufactur and model of your magic Mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter and not only "Why not try the manufacturers recommendations for adaptors?" That's ALL you've said. I ordered my adapter through the official Apple Store, you know ...?! Believe me, I would GLADLY pay you 100 dollars if I was wrong and you could name me your magic adapter which doesn't exist. (Or you've fixed another color problem with it, not the one described here ...) But I guess I don't have to. Keep your arrogant attitude and call back when you've REALLY something.
