bluetooth not working

I have imac ghz Intel core i3. Bought refurbished from Apple Store. Now that it is out of warranty, I figured out that the bluetooth isn't working properly. Is there anything I can do? It will not connect my HP printer, a numerical pad for the wireless keyboard, nor will it connect to iphone. Any suggestions as to how to check if it is working or to get it working?
