I have been trying to delete a Smart Folder in the Search section of Finder. I have not been successful! I can't even open it or access it. I tried dragging it to Trash and it pops back to place. How do I eliminate this folder?

Thank you! I had 4 of these. Just dragged the saved search folder into trash for each and did not have to hold the CMD key, either. The saved search folder was purple for me, 3 were in the files section but one had no files and the folder was in the top section. All gone!
Right-click and "remove from sidebar"
If you want to remove all traces of it from your system, you'll need to delete it from USER FOLDER/library/saved searches/ too.
Hold down CMD as you drag it from the sidebar.

Nice one CaptFred! I was wondering why they had ditched the drag-and-drop way of doing it, didn't realise they added the need to hold CMD. Now I can do it in one step again
Yeah, that got introduced with 10.6.7. Too many people were dragging things off by mistake so they gave it the same process as removing something from the menubar. Too bad they didn't implement it for the dock...

Figured as much regarding the accidental removal - good suggestion regarding the dock! I'm sure it'd save a good amount of discussions and AppleCare support calls
How do you remove smart folders from iPads as well as iMac?
Have OSe Captain 10.11.4 but "command" drag to trash does not work also tried
1) command + shift - did not work
2) command + option - did not work
3) command + control - did not work
looked in the user library and there is not a folder called "saved searches"
Is there another suggestion please 🙂
Discovered the answer 🙂
When clicking on the search it shows all of the files for that search including the saved search. I just deleted that saved search and then removed the search from the side dock.
