How to Make clean Loops

Aside from getting a good signal (which I'm pretty well versed in), what might be the best steps to create a good clean loop. A loop that doesn't "tick" or "click" between regions.

By hook or crook, I've been sort of able to do this, but wasn't sure of other methods (better).

Today I played/recorded a 2 bar bass part (with a real bass), and then began toying with it. Option dragged a 2nd copy on the same track, then picked up the Audio crossfade tool, and made a decent cross fade between both, and it seemed to work well. I then clicked on the selected regions then the Loop check box, it was clicking/poping between regions again.

I tend to think there might be an easier way.
