Suddenly when viewing folders in Icon view, and using Arrange by Name, all the files appear in reverse order. They're OK in List , Column and Cover Flow views. They used to be OK in Icon view too. Is this because I updated to 10.6.8, or foer some other reason, and is there anything I can do about it?

Not here it doesn't. If I'm in Icon View mode, right-click in a blank space between the icons, go Arrange By and then click Name, it doesn't matter how many times I do that. The sorting order does not change.
What happens when you select "Arrange By Name" again?

Thanks, MotionMan - I feel such an idiot! continuing to click on Arrange by Name toggles the order. I'd never noticed that.

No problem. Though that has been around seemingly forever (including in Windows), it is still something that a lot of users simply do not know about or understand.

Yes, it was around forever and it's a miracle how Apple managed to destroy it in Lion, where it doesn't work anymore...
Works fine in Lion as well.
