Disable MIDI Clock and set MIDI interface to 1MHz??

I am upgrading the OS in my Studio Electronics SE-1X synth. In the instructions I am asked to disable MIDI Clock in Logic and also to set my MIDI interface to 1MHz. Does anyone know how to do this? I use Logic 7.1.1 and an AMT8 USB MIDI Interface. I also have a non-USB Unitor8 (connected with a serial cable to the AMT8) and a DIGI 002R and MOTU 828 mkII if any of those will work better. As I understand it, SE-1X seems to do better with an older slower MIDI interface.

Similarly, I'm about to upgrade the firmware in my Logic Control. I am asked to Disable MTC, MMC, MIDI Clock, MIDI Metronome, or any other MIDI signals being sent by Logic. I have no idea how to do that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the upgrade instructions from Studio Electronics:

#1. DISABLE MIDI CLOCK. If you do not, you will damage, possibly irreparably, your Flash-ROM chip!

#2. Set your MIDI interface to 1MHz (this has nothing to do with "tempo" - which is preset), or whatever your slowest transmission speed is, for if you do not–again–you will savage, decidedly irreparably, your Flash-ROM chip. If it appears that your interface doesn't allow you to define this value DO NOT PROCEED!! Contact the tech. support dept. of the interface's manufacturer to obtain such instructions (pray they be available).

I spotted this a couple of days ago, but assumed somebody else would be able to provide a more definitive answer than me. Anyway, here is my take on it:

1: Go to your Utilities folder and open Audio Midi setup. Here you should be able to select your individual synths. Double clicking any of them should bring up a list of properties where you can disable beat clock, time code and machine control. Your midi interface should also be listed here as well. Have a look and see if you can disable anything here. I'm unsure as I am still using an Opcode Studio 5 connected to a stealth serial port and OS X doesn't really know what it is other than 15 midi ins and outs. Under OS9 I used to be set the interface speed via OMS, don't know how to do it with OSX. You may want to consider doing the upgrade under OS9 if you are able as the interface speed control definately exists under OMS, but I would assume that Apples core MIDI driver runs at the lowest speed for maximum compatability. I could be wrong!

2: In Logic click and hold the synchronisation button in the transport window (The one that looks like a clock) or alternatively option>y This should open the Synchronization settings. Click on the MIDI tab and deselect any of the boxes for sending midi clock, midi time code or midi machine control. If you want you can click on MIDI Sync Preferences (bottom left corner) and deselect anything that is selected there as well.

Hopefully that is some help. This information comes with no guarantee of any sort.

Cheers

Evan
