Advice on using an Edirol Keyboard Cotroller

Hello,
I am curious if newer system software for using an Edirol PCR Keyboard Controller is necessary to properly interface with a Mac mini w/OS 10.4.4 USB port. There is a software CDROM with the keyboard but I do not know if it ia compatable w OSX 10.4.4. Any help appreciated.

I've got the PCR-50 manual and here's what it says. Its kind of hard to do without showing pictures.. but lets give it a try:

- press the [EDIT] button.
- Press the [SYSTEM] key.
----> note: The display will indicate “SY0”.

- Use the [0]–[8] keys to specify the System setting that you want to set,
and then press the [ENTER] button.
----> note: 6 = USB DRIVER MODE - This is the place in the PCR 50 that you use to set the default driver mode. You want to use GENERIC, which I will explain below.

- Use the [DEC][INC] buttons or the [0] or [1] keys to specify the USB DRIVER MODE. 0 = Original (the factory default), 1= "GEn" (or generic - the one you want to use)

- Press the [ENTER] button.

Congratulations, your Edirol MIDI controller is now setup to use OS X's built-in driver for MIDI.

I should probably note that the generic driver built into OS X is very good and 90% of the USB MIDI devices on the market use this driver. Edirol provides some proprietary features in their custom driver that you will probably never use.

Good luck!

There is a rather cryptic section of the manual which describes how you can permanently program the PCR keyboards to use OS X's built-in MIDI driver. This is great because once you set it up, there is nothing else you need to do. Attaching the PCR to any Mac makes it just WORK with no custom drivers installed.

They call the driver in the manual a "generic" driver.
