Problem with Apple M8536 23 inch Cinema display

Good evening. I have an Apple M8536 23 inch Cinema Display. It has worked flawlessly for many many years. I love the display. A while ago I had trouble getting the display to light evenly after powering down. Sometimes the top portion of the screen would be dim and sometimes the lower portion of the screen would be dim. I read somewhere to pull the ADC plug out of the video card and re insert it. That worked fine but now the screen does not light up at all. When I pull the ADC plug and reinsert it, the screen lights up for just a second and then goes dark again. The lighted button on the bottom right of the case that you push to turn on the computer is blinking and was doing that before when the screen would be dim either top or bottom. I read that the code of the blinking was an indication of the wrong resolution chosen but I do not think that is correct because it used to be Ok after repluging the ADC plug. Blinking would stop after reinserting the plug.

I live in the Caribbean so it is hard to get Apple service. We have an authorised Apple service center on the isand but he charged me $50 to say that it is not working! Like I didn't know that.

Any suggestions?

This means that some of the backlights have gone. The flashing (short-short-long) indicates that the logic board has detected this failure. I also read that sometimes unplugging and reconnecting helps - the backlights will come up for a while. But lately they are at the end of their lifetime.

In addition, Apple sold these monitors "as is". If one part was broken, they replaced the whole monitor. While it is of course possible to open it and replace the backlights manually, I would not recommend this.

Go buy a new monitor with LED backlights. It consumes less power, gives you more screen size for less money and a better color space.
