iPhone 4 wont charge...lose all my data??!!

My iPhone won't charge. I've tried connecting via USB from computer to iPhone, tried different plugs connected from my wall but no success. I called Apple and the only thing they told me is that they will replace it for free but it will take a week but if I pay $45 they can send it to me a in 3 days!?? When I asked about all the data that was on my phone I was simply told that I would lose it all? What I don't understand, is that all the data is still on a perfectly fine hard drive, card, disk or whatever is used to store data on the iPhone. Why can't apple just replace the connector for me, should be cheaper than giving me a whole new phone, why do I have to lose all of my data for such a minor problem??

I understand. if the the hard drive was damaged and my data was gone I understand, but the fact that my data is still in there and that it it can be saved , hurts. It's like buying a new iMac and there is a problem with the power button, but instead of fixing the power button, let's just throw it away with all of your data and give a whole new iMac. thanks for the reply.

Your data from your iphone is stored on your CPU. (and your backup external disc) That's the "perfectly fine" hard drive.

When you get your new phone, restore it from your old phone's last backup. All the saved data will go to yoru new phone. The only thing you will lose is stuff since your last backup/sync. You can re-download your not-backed-up apps easily

This is why backups are so vital. No one ever expects they'll have a problem so they forgo backing up, saying "it'll never happen to me." Yeah right. It happens to everyone.

If you never backed it up, then obviously that data wasn't important enough to save, so it must not be important now, right? Don't blame Apple.

If you did, you did good, and you will be mostly all right.

Good luck
