If it's backed up on your PC then you can simply sync it back to your iPod. If you have no back up then you may be out of luck. Purchased music cannot be reloaded from iTunes. You can try talking to the iTunes store.

Well, in iOS 5.1 purchased apps are restored by the App Store directly in the device (iPhone 4s) with no difficulty, but I have not been able to find a way to restore songs and audio books purchased from iTunes. This difference between the App Store and iTunes seems somewhat strange.

Although iTunes shows the purchases, and although the receipts are logged to the right Apple ID, and although iTunes confirms that the purchase was already made to the right Apple ID (: 'You've already purchased this item. Do you want to purchase it again?'), restoring the purchases seems impossible.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

In some countries a free redownload is allowed. See:

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

The answer is that the iCloud advertising in Danish speaks of restoring apps, books and music and shows this, and in small print / gray print adds that in some countries this is not available. The Danish copy does not say that in Denmark the service is unavailable (suppose the English copy in US spelling showed the service, but did not say that the service was unavailable in the US).

After another couple of hours of hunting around, a Knowledge Base article in Danish turns up which begins by saying that purchases from the App Store, the iBookstore and the iTunes Store are restorable, but in small print / gray print advises which countries the service in fact covers. Denmark is not covered.

Naturally, the Danish copy should in both the advertising and in the additional information start by clarifying that music is not restorable for Danish customers. Instead, the Danish copy extolls a service that does not cover the iTunes Store in Denmark. The term for this in Danish is 'vildledende markedsføring' which is to say that the marketing is misleading.
