cannot send mail with iPhone

Does anyone know why it appears impossible to send mail via my iPhone and iPod Touch? Receiving mail is all right.

This is a problem I endured for ages with the iPod Touch and had hoped things would be better on the iPhone. I'm convinced it has something to do with the settings...but what?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3

This has nothing at all to do with the iPhone or iPod Touch and everything to do with your email provider and how you set up the SMTP (outgoing mail) server. That's why everyone doesn't have your problem.

Without more info, it's impossible to help.

1. Who is your email provider?

2. What happens when you try to send email? Do you get an error message?

2. What is set up as the SMTP server for that account? Do you have the correct security settings?

3. Some email providers don't allow access from mobile devises and need to have an alternative SMPT server set.

I see. Thanks.

As I'm in the Netherlands, I'm not sure if knowing who my email provider is can help (hosted.nl)

When attempting to send mail I get the following message: 'Cannot Send Mail. A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipient "xxx@gmail.com" was rejected by the server.'

I'm not sure what the correct security are supposed to be. The SMTP server is set to "mail.chidi.org" user name and password are both on "optional". SSL is on (I believe that's a default setting) and the server Port is 993.

Does this make any sense to you?

Since it's about 21.30 here, I'll have to wait until tomorrow before getting in touch with my internet provider.
