java no longer installed in chrome after updating

After the latest update to JAVA, (update 10, OS X 10.5) when I visit a site that uses java, it tells me that java is not installed for my browser(google Chrome). I've tried re-starting the Mac and also re-installing the update to no avail, still getting the message that java is not installed. I need java functionality and the chrome browser is the most responive and user friendly that I have tried, suckfari has too much lag, is anyone else having this issue?

re-installing the combo update did not fix the issue, but updating to safari 5.0.5 did improve the performance of safari; though it is still not on par with Chrome for pure download speed, the lag is decreased. Still having the issue with java and chrome. Submitted issue report to chrome to see if they had a possible solution. Thanks again for the help.
