Time code burn ins with FCPX?
I was used to making time code burn ins with FCP7. I see there's no "time code reader" effect in FCPX. Anyone know how to with the new software or with Motion 5? I suppose I could just use FCP7.

Duplicate the project, without render files. Select everything in the duplicate and make it a compound clip. Apply the timecode effect to the compound clip. Control-R to force render. Export.
Tom, I can't seem to make that do what I need. The FCPX timecode effect is not reading the code, it just seems to generate it's own code. Which, I maybe I didn't make that clear in my post.
In FCP7, I could read the original timecode from the camera clips. It doesn't seem possible in FCPX.
Thanks for the reply. A timecode generator could work for approvals I suppose.
Yes, I missed that sorry. 155 titles but no TC reader unless it'll read off individual clips but I don't believe so.
What is that like a gap clip? You're going to put that on an hour long show and stick an effect on it? What are you going to do about the titles it pushes out of the way? You're going to need the TC burn on top.
A shame that it will not read, only generate. There must be, or at least should to be, a way to do this considering how much clip metadata is now tracked and available to the system. But I believe it is beyond our ability to access that info from a Motion project.
I found out that I could make a timecode reader using a Motion 5 effect. The "timecode" effect in FCPX only generates, but if you use the "timecode" effect in Motion and publish it to FCPX, it will read the original timecode and you can make a timecode burn-in movie.
I can't seem to do the connect clip trick, but I can select all clips in the project, and then double click the effect and it will apply to all.
I hope that helps.
