phantom audio

I have an audio clip from a seperate file which does not show up on the timeline or as a waveform but mysteriously plays over a clip in my timeline. I've replaced the clip it plays over and it's still there. I've removed clips that surround it and it just moves down the timeline. I just can't for the life of me find it on the time line despite how much I zoom in or out. Is this just a bug?
