How do I recover deleted trash?
I have just emptied the trash and in it was two folders off the desktop, is it possible to retrieve them?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Only with recovery software, and you'd be advised not to use the Mac until you have it, to avoid the data being over-written.
Data Rescue 3;

Stellar Phœnix;

Both programmes will give you a free download to scan your HD and see if the files are recoverable, but you'll have to pay for the full application to actually recover them. you'll also need to be able to boot to an external drive, usually to run the data retrieval from.
Of course, if you used secure empty, it's already too late.
The easiest solution is to restore from your current backup.
Hello:
Noonday's advice is correct. The reason I am posting is to indicate that backups do not contain the trash folder (as indicated in another post).
Barry
What I meant was; The folders were deleted from the desktop, and the backup (time machine) would have the folders and content in the backup.
Hello bob:
I am not here to argue, but…… Time Machine does not backup trash - as I said. I am sure you are aware that things can be deleted from all over the system. What you describe assumes that Time Machine has made an automatic backup before the folder (or whatever) was deleted. That, of course is possible, but most inadvertent deletions are noticed almost immediately.
As I indicated, noonday's post is the "normal" method to try to recover items that are still on the HD, but deleted in the trash.
Barry
The only way to find out is to try to recover them. There are actually quite a few very good options for recovery.
