Is there an iPhone antivirus App?

I hear warnings of virus and malware threats for smartphones, let alone hacking (all the media coverage here in the UK at the moment about mobile phone hacking!) I see that security software companies are offering software for Android and Windows Mobile phones, but can find nothing for the iPhone 4.

Searching on these forums people say the iPhone is safe so long as its not "Jailbroken" ...... what does that mean?

Is there an anti malware App for the iPhone? With all the protection that is needed for PC's venturing onto the Internet these days I do wonder with a phone that can do the same.

iPhone 4, Windows 7

Regardless of outdated sayings there is a problem with iOS security , I've had first hand knowledge of. Seeing it in action from the spies view and from the spied ins view . My ex business partner used to spy on his misses at home while he was at work via his Mac sat at home , he could watch on his iPhone secretly through the webcam on the Mac and the light of operation didn't come on either ... When I split with him I had a feeling he'd key logged my Mac book so I set up a test , I arranged some thing on my Mac book that he couldn't help but use to try And get me into trouble, straight away I was getting trouble come back to me , THE IOS CAN HAVE MALWARE PROBLEMS LEADING TO A MASSIVE SECURITY BREACH ?! THE ONES BORN EVERY MINUTE ARE THE NON BELIEVERS THAT MALWARE EXISTS FOR THE IOS!!!

Which is not an indication that there is a vulnerability in iOS. It means that he was able to install something on the computer, which, if he has access to it, would't be that difficult.

As has been explained to you in the thread you started, there is very little danger that your iPhone will be compromised as long as you do not allow anyone to have access to it while it's unlocked.

Nothing in this world is completely safe, but as it stands currently, there is no known virus, malware or spyware that can be installed on non-jailbroken iOS devices.

So jailbreaking an iOS device to install software to protect against something that can only be installed if the device is jailbroken seems a tad silly.

Why do you want an App that needs the device to be altered in such a way as to be exposed to the very things its trying to protect it against?

In other words no. Until such time as a virus, malware or spyware is found on a non-jailbroken device the best bet is to leave the device as is. Malware detection apps are not required if there's nothing for them to detect.

It's like getting a heart transplant when there is nothing wrong with your heart, simply because its possible you may develop a heart condition later in life even though there is no history of heart disease in your family at all. But because heart disease is a thing affecting others you figure you may as well get a heart transplant now.

I don't agree with jailbreaking iPhones BUT unless there is malware detection app for all the apple items it may well be the only option to protect ones self as spyware does exist and the notion that iOS is completely safe is no more than a myth

Spyware can only exist on jailbroken phones. So if you jailbreak it to install a malware detection app you have already compromised the built in security that is proof against malware.

Yes, spyware exists. NO, it cannot exist on an unjailbroken iOS device.

Windows has far less security in place to prevent 3rd party developers from distributing potentially dangerous software, and in order to foster a greater development of apps Android historically has had no responsible securities limits in place. Apple iPhones and iOS devices at this time only need to not be jailbroken to prevent infection by malicious software. iOS development has a very strict set of preventative measures when it comes to this.

If iPhones could be easily hacked the FBI would not have paid $900,000 to a security firm to hack one iPhone.

Yup,

Also of note, is that the firm that was paid to do this had to have the iPhone in their possession for several weeks before they could get in.

It's not something that can happen remotely in 5 minutes.

If the iPhone is jailbroken, then all bets are off as anything can happen then.

Jailbreaking simply means that the phone firmware is modified allowing third party applications to be installed, ones that are not blessed by Apple. This also invalidates your warranty, so dont go there!! You can get a firewall for the iphone but it has to be jailbroken to work. Dont think I've heard of any iPhones with viruses so you should rest easy! Hope this helps?
