how to change the owner of the i mac

My mother gave me her macbook five years ago I never changed anything she had and I had time machine, the problem is that I bought an i mac and the first time I turn it on it asked me if I had time machine so it could set everything as I had it, but it also put my mothers name as the owner (her name is in the icon with the house) and I want to change that, if I could do that without reseting everything would be great if not then how do I reset everything?

Greetings Pedro,

To change the name of the user (the home folder) without creating an entirely new account on the computer for yourself, follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1428

Once complete you will also want to go to the Addressbook and locate the "Me" card (has a little outline of a person on it's card) and enter in your name and contact information.

Hope that helps.
