How do I group objects with keyboard shortcut?

That symbol is for the option key. For Ungroup, the up arrow is for the shift key.

Group = command, option g

Ungroup = command, option, shift g

Do look at your keyboard. the symbol should be visible on the option or alt (alternative) key.

I suppose that depends on what keyboard you have. On mine, an Apple Keyboard with numeric pad that shipped with my iMac in Early 2008, it does not show. Everyone should be able to find them in the Keyboard Viewer though.

My one-week-old wireless keyboard that is standard with the newest iMacs also does not show the symbols on any key except the command key.

The option key has two labels, showing "alt" at the top of the key in smaller type size (I'm sure for the benefit of Windows switchers).

fruhulda it is not making clear what the symbol means that is the problem. Apple uses the symbol and the ALT but not together so you can decode the instructions. There is also the legacy name of option to add to the confusion. another case of accommodating Windows switchers at the expense of Mac users.

Once you know what the symbol is it sort of makes sense. After all these years it is the control symbol that still confuses me.

The other confusion is using the capital letter when they really mean the lowercase letter.

My unused wireless aluminium keyboard display alt and ⌥.

It displays also cmd and ⌘.

In fact the keys are marked differently according to the asked localization.

Some months ago, we posted the keyboards layouts.

Keyboard viewer doesn't reflect what is really printed on the keys.

For every layouts, it display only the symbols on several keys :

tab ⇥

delete ⃪ on keyboard, ⌫ on viewer

return ↩

enter ⌅

shift ⇧

shift lock ⇪

arrows ←↑→↓↖↘⇞⇟

suppr ⌦

It's a bit funny to see that the System's help describes a key symbol tab to left ⇤ which doesn't exists on Apple keyboard but doesn't describe two available ones :

I really don't know what this one is supposed to achieve ⌧

Apple used to be good at thinking things through.

My keyboard says alt and that have all of the keyboards I have used the last 20 years for Mac done. I have swedish keyboards.

I did, Peter, in my first post here. I just didn't repeat it in the second post. To clarify: on my keyboard the alt and the symbol are on the same key on the swedish keyboards I have and have had.

All the recent flat aluminium keyboards here only have alt & option on them.
