Question:

Question: updating itunes failed due to quicktime not able to be uninstalled?

Trying to update from version 9 to version 10 of itunes either through itunes or manually from itunes website keeps failing.

Gets to the point of where it says trying to update quicktime, and then says failed at removing older version of quicktime,

that quick time is a neccissity component of itunes, and installation must stop.

i tried to uninstall quicktime manually, quicktime and it says

"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

"click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'QuickTime.msi' in the box below"

the current 'quicktime.msi' file its using is on my C: drive... not a network

C:\DOCUME~1\HP_ADM~1.HP\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP007.TMP\

how do i update or get rid of quicktime?!

Windows XP

i did that microsoft cleanup thing and such...

when i go to update itunes again, it passes the quicktime but comes up with same issue but for the "itunes.msi"...

...i can do the same process with iTunes... but will if i do, i would loose my playlists and play counts and everything... right??

if so, is there another way?

Yes you can do the cleanup for iTunes and it should not affect your library.

I think it would be a good idea to attempt to uninstall all iTunes related programs in order to flush out any others that will not uninstall and so need cleanup.

Use this method:
