What was the problem that prompted you to do this once a week?
There are some who say it is a total waste of time; I prefer repairing permissions after any software update because I've noticed that there seem to be quite a few out of whack after that.
Here is an article from Apple:
Best practise: Repir permissions when you have a permissions issue. Otherwise, what's the point?
When I feel system is slow, or acting weird, I would verify disk and see this list reporting a bunch of things that needs to be repaired. so I do the repair.
Hello:
As Terrence said, if it is not broken, don't fix it. IMHO, repairing permissions is a waste of time (although I admit I do it after software updates). Permission repair (back in the "old days") used to be a cure-all for all problems. People whispered in hushed voices "repair permissions." The "old days" are gone.
The messages you get when you repair permissions are (almost always) routine information messages - although they mean nothing to me. There are knowledge base articles on those messages if you want more information.
