Can you use ibooks without wifi?
I am wondering if you can use ibooks and read books on it, already downloaded, without wifi.

Yesterday my Internet connection crapped out, and I could not open books that were fully downloaded from the iBooks Store but could open epubs that I downloaded from Gutenberg and similar sources. This was on the iMac not on iPhone or iPad.

Yes. That is why they are downloaded.
As long as they are already downloaded to your iPad, you can absolutely read them without wifi service.
If I have selected the "open with iBooks" option for a pdf document attachment in an email or Dropbox - is this the same as downloading so the pdf is then readable at any time when NOT connected to wifi? 😕

Yes. The PDF would have been donwloaded and stored within iBooks. You can look for it in the PDF section of iBooks.

When receive the email , the pdf docuemnt is downloaded.
Then when you open with iBooks, the already downloaded file is copied to iBooks app.
