Mail strips leading leading whitespace. How to disable?

Using Mail 4.5 (1084), I notice when sending plaintext messages, Mail will strip whitespace. For example: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a list here: - Item one - sub item a - sub item b - Item two is a long sentence and has a newline followed by two spaces to line up properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- When I send my message, the whitespace is stripped to be: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a list here: - Item one - sub item a - sub item b - Item two is a long sentence and has a newline followed by two spaces to line up properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Is there any way to disable the whitespace stripping? One reason why I use plain text and fixed-with font is to line up characters.

Apparently I need to use HTML editor:

Using Mail 4.5 (1084), I notice when sending plaintext messages, Mail will strip whitespace.

For example:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a list here:

- Item one

- sub item a

- sub item b

- Item two is a long sentence and has a newline

followed by two spaces to line up properly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I send my message, the whitespace is stripped to be:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a list here:

- Item one

- sub item a

- sub item b

- Item two is a long sentence and has a newline

followed by two spaces to line up properly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Apparently discussions.apple.com uses the same engine :/

So it appears that a single space at the beginning of a line will be stripped out, but 2 or more spaces are honored.

I actually had to add spaces to the beginning of the "raw" text above to keep it from getting distorted just like the "mail shows" text.

I guess that's a work-around at least...pad anything with important leading whitespace with enough *extra* leading space to have at least 2 per line.

I have got this problem too with outputs of the diff command:

38 38 o27-3-sw3 50 50 00:13:21:89:6D:80

39 39 o27-3-gs3 48 48 00:25:61:D3:9D:40

-40 40 o27-3-sw1 50 50 00:0F:20:57:8E:80

41 41 o27-3-sw2 50 50 00:12:79:20:5D:80

It should look like this:

38 38 o27-3-sw3 50 50 00:13:21:89:6D:80

39 39 o27-3-gs3 48 48 00:25:61:D3:9D:40

-40 40 o27-3-sw1 50 50 00:0F:20:57:8E:80

+40 40 o27-3-sw1 50 50 00:1C:2E:4C:1D:80

41 41 o27-3-sw2 50 50 00:12:79:20:5D:80

Could anybody please find the answer?
