connecting airport express to bt home hub 3

Hi All,

I have read through most of the threads on this and i have tried everything.

Can someone tell me if this issue has been resolved at all?.

I'm trying to connect airport express to the bt home hub 3 wirelessly.

I believe wired with CAT 5 works okay although not tried it as i really don't want it this way!.

I think i've tried everything.

entered password with $ in front.

Changed security settings on hub to WEP rather than WPA which i thought was the problem.

I would be grateful if someone could put me out of my misery with this, i'm wondering why i changed to BT now.

Thanks everyone.

If you can access the setup pages for the BT Home Hub, please list the exact wireless security choices that are available having to do with any WPA type settings and we can give you a corresponding Apple match.

You would want to avoid using any type of WEP encryption, since this is easily cracked and no longer considered secure.

OK,thanks. We're down to some guesswork.

I would first try a setting of WPA Only on the Home Hub and a setting of WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AirPort Express.

I would also disable the WPS push button connection setting on the Home Hub.

You'll need to get the AirPort Express back to factory default settings and then try the configuration again. To do this....

Power down the AirPort Express

Hold in the reset button on the Express and continue to hold the reset button for 10-12 seconds while you plug the device back in to power

Release the reset button and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light

It will usually help to temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express for the configuration.

As soon as you see the message that the configuration settings have been successfully stored on the Express.....close the AirPort Utility application immediately and disconnect the Ethernet cable if you used one.

Wait 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart. If the light turns green, you are good to go.

If no luck, try WPA2 Only on the Home Hub but leave the same setting of WPA/WPA2 Personal on the Express. You will have to start all over again.

This post was really helpful and it worked for me.

I used the cable to set up airport from the laptop, with the changes to the bt hub settings as suggested after connecting to the hub.

I set up both by situating the airport physically near the homehub. Then moved away once working.

Once it was working and green I could only see the orignal homehub wireless network although this was now connecting through the airport in another part of the house that was a dead area prior. I thought this point is useful as a novice I expected to see an airport network but this was not the case once it was all set up properly.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Bob,

I wanted to thank you for this post. I'd been having a similar problem with my AAE and BT HH3.

I've spent upwards of two evenings trying to sort this out, and frankly it was driving me bonkers!

Five minutes reading and acting on your advice and I can now play my music again.

Mate, it's really appreciated, a huge thank you from here in snowy Royal Leamington Spa, England. Though possibly not from my neighbours!

All the best, Bob (or as you're now known in these parts, Lord Timmons)

Dan
