A problem that I am having is that I don't know how to connect the extension power cord to the AC adapter. I really need that power cord since the wall socket is quite far from my table. Any help here guys?

Hold the power adapter with the plug top right and the thin wire to the MBP coming out the bottom. The plug should slide off to the right. Reverse the process to attach the cord when it will stick up vertically.
