How do I change my network password

I have a Mac Pro connected to my companies network. Everything was fine for months. But every four months we are forced to change our password. When I had a Windows computer you would get a message that you must change your password now.The dialog box would have your old password and you would have to enter your new network password twice. But now that I'm on a Mac I'm not getting that dialog box, just a message saying that my password has expired. How do I change my network password using a Mac?

When I first connected to the company network, I had a Windows computer. When it came time to change the password, a dialog box would pop open forcing me to change the password. But we recently switched to Macs. When I first set up the Mac I used my current network password, but now its time to change passwords and I'm not getting anything similar to the "change your password" dialog box. Instead it just tells me that my password has expired with no means of changing it. How do I change my network password on a Mac.

BTW, our IT department is... less than helpful when it comes to Macs.
