iPad 2 vga mirroring does not work.

Please help. I've just bought an iPad 2 to use in my classroom. I bought the iPad->VGA-out adapter. I've hooked it up to an LCD projector, and no joy. I have "widescreen" enabled under video settings. I also have a colleague here with me at the workshop who has an iPad 2 and he plugs his in and it mirrors immediately. I cannot get mine to mirror. Do I have a crappy iPad or is there a setting hidden somewhere that I can't find? He and I are banging our heads against this one. Can't figure out why one iPad works and the other does not. Any clues?

That's what you need to mirror an iPad 2

That would make sense if I had plugged in my friend's iPad 2 and got no results. But I was able to plug in his iPad 2 and mirror the video- immediately and flawlessly. I have no doubt that the connector you've suggested works just fine, but I don't think that the adapter you've suggested is the only option.

More info: When I plug in the adapter, in Settings, under "General" I see "Apple VGA Adapter," so the iPad 2 is recognizing it. Model # is A1368. Firmware Revision is 1.0.0. Hardware Revision is 1.0.0. Also, I've just tried mirroring with a third iPad 2 (sexy new white one) and that one also connects and mirrors immediately and flawlessly. I've got a "Genius Bar" appointment here in Providence at 3 p.m. I'll follow up this post with whatever the resolution to this issue may be. I'm hoping it isn't a bad iPad.... 😟

Just for clarification when you take your iPad in, only the Digital adapter will provide true mirroring, i.e. outputting everything that is on the iPad screen to the other device. With the other adapter you can project images from applications that are written to allow output to other devices. If you are using the same app to output images on all 3 machines you might want to go through the Reset - Restore from backup - Restore as new steps with yours before taking it in.

Just FYI- I'm mirroring from the dongle in question (VGA) and the iPads that are working are mirroring from apps with no issues. I'll try the Reset->Restore from backup, then (if that fails) Restore as new. Thanks for the tips, Deggie. You've been very helpful.

Yes, they are producing an image from an app. But mirroring is just that, once you connect the iPad to a projector you can see the home screen and anything else you bring up.

I need some help, I am having the same problem, I have a ipad2, 32GB wifi only model, I bought a VGA adaptor for a class presentation with keynote on Tuesday, I NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!!! The adaptor doesn't work with my iPad but it works with my iPod, I tried restoring iPad but that didn't help.
