can i use my macbook pro's version of snow leopard (the gray disc) to upgrade my leopard on my imac?

i have a early 2009 model of the intel imac(21.5 in i think) running leopard (10.5.8)

i have a brand new macbook pro running snow leopard

i have the gray setup/install CD for snow leopard that came with my macbook pro.

It says on the CD Macbook pro.

Is the CD system specific or is there a way i can upgrade my imac to snow leopard using the macbook pros CD.

I need to do this to access the app store so i can upgrade to OS lion when it comes out.

Someone please help!!!!
