Can we have a translation for that, please...... 😁

(I have enough trouble with American English, LOL)

American English? kind of a misnomer really.

It's not a pidgin, nor even a patois, but I would argue that it has yet to become a language. Strictly it is a creole, give it 500 years and watch it grow into a language (or vanish in a flurry of like, wassup and yo's)

Very true (unfortunately)...... but, for someone for whom English is a second language, I have always differentiated it with "American English" vs. "British English". My English is definitely American English; I was actually told that before ever speaking to an American while in London as an au pair.

You've got it the wrong way round, Babowa.

British English is English. American English is a bastardized version. I don't mean to sound unkind but English is English.

Of course,we are proud that our language is an integral part of Ameircan culture ... but it is our language and adaptations, while locally acceptable, are somewhat less appreciated over here.

Oh dear. I wonder if I will regret starting this one.

We should have charged other nations for the use of it.

No wondering required, you will. 😁

LOL. 😁 of course I understand your position, but we shall agree to disagree - this is from a non-native (English) speaker. This (American) English is what I was taught in a top notch school (Gymnasium) in Germany (we also had to learn Shakespearian English) - why, I do not know . So, having learned American English in school and then encountering British English later, there were and still are two distinctly different versions of English to me.

And of course, you are essentially correct, but I still disagree (in jest)........ 😁
