Ooutgoing email stopped 2 days ago

I made not changes, but the outgoing email just stopped.

I logged onto my email provider from Safari and can send and receive emails.

I can receive emails into my iPad, but not send them.

I checked with my email provider and they say my settings are all correct.

Any ideas?

That's the whole problem, no error messages. The message never hits the sender (tried sending it to myself, even), and it never appears in the outbox. Since there's no draft mailbox I can't tell if the app thinks it sent it. Also, no "whoosh" that says it thinks it went out.

When I change the port Mail does a verify and does not report any problems.

Have you tried just quitting mail and the restart the iPad. Double tap the home button - bring up the task bar - tap and hold down on the mail app icon until it wiggles - then tap the minus sign to close the app. Actually - you might want to try closing all the apps in the task bar. Then restart your iPad - and try again.

Have you tried turning on other SMTP servers to send mail?

Finally - and I did this one time - I was having a similar problem so I did delete the mail account. I went through fits trying to add the account back onto the iPad. Just would not work. I was baffled - this mail account worked flawlessly for months and now I could not set it up on my iPad again. I decided to restore my iPad from the backup and the mail account began working flawlessly again.

The only caveat to this is that I restored the very next day after the account would no longer let me send mail so I had a backup from the day before when the mail account last functioned properly. For all I know it was even merely coincidence that mail started sending again from that account - but I was able to restore the email account and all of the settings from that backup.

Don't know if that would work for you or when you last backed up ....

Well maybe the good news is that you hopefully have a good backup that predates this issue. In any event, I can't say for certain that it will work for you, but it really should because your settings are what the backup stores - apps are not stored in there - but all of your settings, contacts, app data and things like that.

Try the SMTP thing, it's quick and easy.

One last thought - and it doesn't help while you are in the UK, it may all work fine once you get home and until then you can use your webmail. It just ***** to not be able to get this up and running the way it should.

Did it just stop sending as soon as you left the country?

Edit: Just actually read your last post. It could possibly be your internet connection over there. I know some outgoing mail servers are really picky with what they're trying to send through. Last time I was travelling, I hadn't even left the country yet and I had a huge layover and was connected to the airport wifi fine and was able to browse the web, but I couldn't send mail... and this is on Gmail which should pretty much be able to send anywhere. It started working again as soon as I was on the plane's Wifi though. 😕
