Macbook Pro 15'' has a grinding noise

Hey Guys

I recently bought the 2010 Macbook Pro 15'' in August, 2010.

Around Feb, it started making this annoying grinding noise from the front left. (Where your right palm is placed wile typing)

It makes this noise as soon as I start up Mac OS or Bootcamp. It lasts for a long time in Boot Camp, but stops after a while in the Mac OS. If I am using a lot of applications in my Mac, it starts again and does not stop for a long time.

I've taken it to the Apple Store several times, but they have checked and said nothing is wrong. One guy told me it's coming from my hard drive and it is normal. The problem is that they cannot hear the noise in the busy Apple Store.

The noise is VERY annoying and loud. I'm not able to work as soon as it comes on.

Please help.

Thanks a lot.

That's where the HARD DRIVE resides!!! You need to backup whatever you got immediately!!! and then take it to the apple store, whoops you've already taken it to the apple store... Well you could always get an SSD which is silent and super fast! You best option since it hasn't failed is to buy a new hard drive if the noise is unbearable.... If they can't hear it... does it actually sound like metal grinding on metal like old brakes on an old car?

I've taken it to the Genius Bar twice.

The first time, the guy just said it was normal and all Macbooks have it.

The second time, he did a diagnostic check on it and said nothing was wrong.

It is absolutely impossible for them to hear it in the Apple Store (which we all know is the always loud and busy)

My warranty ends in August, 2011. Is there any way I can actually make them hear the noise?

P.S - Thanks for your help guys! I'm a high school student, and it is not fun listening to this noise while writing an essay on Shakespeare. Appreciate your help 🙂
