Q: fcsvr_ldsd versus Final Cut Server LDS

After a restart the activity monitor is showing Final Cut Servers main program fcsvr_ldsd is alive and kicking. After a couple of (busy) hours this process has disappeared from the activity monitor and seems to be replaced by Final Cut Server LDS.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

What exact problems are you experiencing on the end user side?

At first I thought FCS was slowing down as if the cue of jobs was getting too long an then after a while it crashed / became unresponsive.

But now I think this was a coincidence. I managed to speed up many of the processes by creating some content base devices and by reducing the amount of files in some devices / directories.

Some directories contained more than 25000 files. If you try to ingest another 50 files in the same directory, the system will freeze because a Mac is incredibly slow when it has to cope with that many files in a directory.

So now it seems to be harmless, but out of curiosity: why does it happen?
