How do I get rid of the message "iPhoto Paused" from the Dock? It reappears each time I boot up.

After downloading the latest updates for iPhoto, Garageband and iMovie, I noticed three grey bars on the Dock and if I move the cursor over each the name of the application with "Paused" appears. I drag the bar off the Dock and it disappears. However when I boot up the next time the grey bars are still there. How do I delete them permanently?
