No POP3 option available on iphone 4

Hello, I recenlty deleted my email accounts on my iPhone 4 to resolve a "fast draining battery" issue. I've added my work Exchange account back and it works fine. But, my personal email account will not set up the way it was before. It was set up as a POP3 account with the setting to leave the mail on the server. Now when I create the account (settings, mail, add account, OTHER, Add Mail account) I put in my name, email address and password, then click Next...the account is "Verified" the goes to an IMAP page, where I can only choose Cancel or Save...

There is no where to choose POP3....my wife has a iPhone 3g and her's is POP3 .... has something changed in the latest OS upgrade (4.3.3) where POP3 is no longer supported on the iPhone 4? Or, something else?

My email client at home (PC) is set to POP3 and when I check messages there, all the messages on my iPhone are removed.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!!

I'd have to make an effort to set up an account to verify, but it sounds like it's trying your credentials and determining that your server supports IMAP, so that's how it sets it up... POP3 is old technology and will not allow for synchronization between multiple devices. I honestly don't know why anyone would want to use POP instead of IMAP these days if IMAP is available.

I would think you'd be able to go in and change the server type after you complete the setup. Have you tried that?

Good job coming up with the workaround, verpixelt! I guess it seems that Apple's philosophy is to make it 'even that much easier' to setup an email account on the iphone in iOS5, however, my legacy email account is not IMAP, and yet it tried to create an IMAP account, which wreaked havoc on my ability to use my email account on my iphone. Your solution of setting up the account with the wrong password gave me the ability to make the IMAP/POP choice which then allowed my email account to function normally on my iPhone 4S. Thanks.

Apple, - please put the IMAP/POP selection option back in for email account setup on the iPhone. Thank you.

Thank you, thank you for this solution. I've had my iPhone for over 2 years with no problem. POP was an option back then. Then I got an iPad and my husband also got an iPhone which automatically setup as IMAP. We share the same email address. This started wreaking havoc, inadvertently deleting emails from the server before we could get them downloaded into Outlook on our home computer. It took a while to figure out the problem since the first iPhone wasn't the culprit and POP was no longer presented as an option. I just updated both iPhones & iPad to iOS 6. POP still isn't an option.
