How do I import MXF files from my hard drive into Final Cut Pro X?
I just called tech support, and they were very helpful, but gave me bad news. They answered the question that Final Cut Pro X cannot import mxf files (nor can Compressor convert them) from Panasonic and other cameras that they support and suggested finding a third party conversion tool. I've spent two days searching for these types of tools already and bought two (Aunsoft and Pavtube) that say they convert mxf files but they also change the resolution and aspect ratio while doing that and are clunky, non-professional tools at best with email only tech support that replies 24 hours later without complete solutions.
I'm sure a lot of people who are used to importing the files from their Panasonic have gone through the same thing (unless they were smart enough not to upgrade to FCP X). I was so excited to get the FCP X, but have spent two (unbillable) days trying to get files into the program with no luck. I guess I should have listened to all the video people who warned not to buy FCP X because it isn't a pro tool. I ignored their warnings hoping I could make it work. I guess I will use the Adobe Premiere software on my machine that imports the files fine.

maybe a solution for your issue
Until Apple (and/or Canon) develop a plug-in for .mxf to quicktime, we will have to either use Aunsoft's video converter (http://www.aunsoft.com/video-converter-mac/) or migrate to Adobe Premiere 5 or 5.5. It is disturbing that a major camera manufacturer and a major software developer have not addressed this prior to the launch of FCPX, and neither seem in any hurry to do so, but until then, if you have the older FCP (7) you can use Canon's plug-in: http://tinyurl.com/3cg4yky

Does this not work for you?
Just My two cents I also would like Apple or adobe to develop a plugin to import MXF files without conversion loss in the files....Should we request this somwhere at apple and if so where?
TXS! just wrote a big request :-)
Adobe imports .mxf just fine. PPro even has Canon XF presets available for sequences. Adobe Media Encoder makes short work converting the files for use in FCPX. I use them all.
Yep thats correct. I use it all the time, but import for FCPX still seems to be not available through canon or apple
Now, many folks are talking about how to import Canon XF MXF files into Final Cut Pro X for editing without rendering time or quality loss. Well, don’t blame to the Final Cut Pro X, the “Import from Camera…” option works just like “Log and Transfer”. The thing is, even FCP X does not work with the Canon or Panasonic P2 MXF files. As far as i know, to solve those problems, the most important piece of the equation is that transcoding MXF files to Final Cut Pro X native formats(e.g. Apple ProRes encoded mov format) along with some help from the third-party software, Pavtube MXF Converter for Mac is the best choice for you. To help those who wanna import/edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro X flawlessly, I’m sharing my experience to convert MXF files to Apple ProRes Codec for Final Cut Pro X: http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/category/mxf-to-prores/
In addtion, If you want to know more mxf video converter and importing or editing, please view the professional mxf column: http://mts-to-aic-converter.com/mxf-column/
you can sort of do it ..
if you have Avid, you can create quicktime reference from your mxf footage.
the other way would be to strip the essence media from the mxf file (if you know the codec ) and repack it in different container. ffmpeg has broadcast version, try that for conversion.
