Hello:

What is the highest amount of memory or combinations of memory that can be installed in the Mini Mac?

Thanks

Can you recommend a brand.

Also, does it matter what combination? I know the Mini Mac comes with 2GB, is with 1 - 2GB or 2 - 1GB

pre-installed?

There are two slots, so stock 2G is two 1G sticks. Apple says "For best performance, don't mix sizes"

Can't really recommend a brand, usually doesn't matter and price s/b close from various vendors. OWC sells their own as well as Samsung. Crucial is a direct from vendor site. I've used both and was happy with service and prices. Just check out the sites as well as Amazon and Apple for comparison. OWC will buy your old memory sticks, but you won't get much.

Also, if you have the newer mini, installation is very easy. See: Mac mini: How to remove or install memory

I have now tried both:

2x Samsung 4Gb 2Rx8 PC3 10600S-09-11-F3

2x Hynix 4Gb 2Rx8 PC3 10600S-9-10-F2

No luck with either of them in any combination.

ALL modules run fine in any of the two slots but as soon as you use 2 of them at the same time the computer refuse to start up and just beeps.

I have reset NVRAM without improvement (cannot reset it when both modules are in, it just beeps)

Even though its 10600 memory it should not differ since its faster than required and will downclock.

Genius, tell me what is going on. The memory is 100% fine but my patience is running out with it...!

Ill answer myself...

I managed to find a Samsung 4gb 2Rx8 PC3 8500S-07-10-F2 memory and that combined with one of the other modules seemed to work fine.

So, beware of nice fast modules because mac mini don´t ask the spd chip and clock down properly?

Sorry for not posting the bottom row memory info with the ddr3 code info.

Just dont put in ddr-1333 modules when you upgrade - stick with ddr-1066 🙂

Ok, I've got the Mini Mac set-up - but, downloading the updates takes forever - Just downloading

the update for Snow Leopard to almost 2 hours.

We have Verizon DSL with a download speed of - .5-1 mps

With our iMac G5 (Tiger) 1GB - the downloads took much lees time.

It also seems to be taking longer to go to the differant web sits.
