If I turn the cellular network off, I can still send a text. Is this going through wi fi. If so, do I avoid roaming charges overseas?

I'm overseas and turned the cellular data off in settings. I can still send and receive texts though. Are the texts routing through the wi fi connection, or am I being charged roaming text rates. It seems like turning cellular data off should disable the ability of the phone to do roaming things you will be charged for.

SMS does not use cellular data in the same way that Internet access does. You will be charged International rates for text messaging. MMS, on the other hand, uses data. If you have data roaming off, you should not be able to send or receive MMS messages, but you will be charged for SMS messages. Undoubtedly cheaper than voice minutes while roaming, but still pricey.
