Will a Seagate FreeAgent 2 TB SuperSpeed USB 3.0 work with my iMac? I know the iMac only has USB 2.0 ports, but is USB 3.0 backward-compatible, meaning it would work on a computer with USB 2.0 ports? (at USB 2.0 speeds, of course)

Yes. Usually on the box of the device it will have "backwards compatible with USB 2.0".
I just got a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0, and my iMac does not even see it. I can't get it to mount. I called Seagate and they said that Apple is having trouble recognizing USB 3.0. Is there any software/firmware updates for that? Can anyone respond to that?

Update...I talked to Seagate and asked if I could exchange the USB 3.0 adapter for a FireWire one, and they are doing it at no cost to me. That's what I call customer service!
Nice! Firewire, even though it's not as fast as USB 3.0, it should be faster than USB 2.0.
I don't actually have a USB 3.0 hard drive, I just saw a good deal on one, and was wondering if it would work with my iMac.
I agree it was nice for them to exchange it. I just don't know why it's taking so much frickin' time for someone like OWC to come out with an external Thunderbolt capable drive!
