I was wondering, since FCX is now out, is there anyway to legally just purchase a serial code for FCS3? About to purchase another second hand mac (G5 for £300) already got the disks to install final cut just need another serial code.

Nope. FCP 7...FCS 3...has been yanked from all legitimate stores. Apple, Apple resellers...all gone. They are only "considering" it for large enterprise installations. But FCP 7 is dead and gone.

Not entirely true.
Plus, phone up an Apple Software retailer and ask them. Some still have stock. In the UK at least.
Also, as Apple has now pulled the plug, it means that 2nd hand sales are legal too.
